    Course Overview

    This course covers the EAL Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT – Portable Appliance Testing) (QCF).

    This award gives an understanding of the theory and practice of the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment; commonly referred to as PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing). During the course, a number of practical exercises are undertaken using a range of portable appliance testing equipment.

    It will give delegates theoretical and practical experience in the implementation of a formal inspection and testing regime for electrical equipment (portable appliances).

    Who should attend?

    Electrical and non-electrical personnel with the responsibility of carrying out formal visual inspections and tests of portable appliances. Delegates are required to be familiar with and bring to the course the most recent copy of the IET Code of Practice.


    This course entails an EAL on-screen examination and also a practical assessment. The on-screen examination is open book and candidates will require a copy of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Candidates must pass BOTH the on-screen and practical assessments to achieve the qualification.


    Candidates who successfully complete the course and the EAL examinations will receive a Faraday Centre competence certificate as well as EAL accredited certificate. Candidates who fail will receive a Faraday Centre attendance certificate.

    Fees include

    • Candidate’s course notes (Electronic Version). If a hard copy is required there will be a nominal fee of £25.00.

    • It is recommended that candidates consider refresher training within a maximum of three years, subject to changes in rules, regulations etc.
    • The Faraday certificates are dispatched to clients after receipt of full payment.

    Payment terms

    Standard terms for The Faraday Centre Ltd. clients with established credit are payment in 30 days from date of invoice. Otherwise, payment is required at least 7 days prior to the course commencement date.
